One
of a very small number of seafarers with a Masters Certificate in
Sail, John is able to command both merchant ships and all sizes and
classes of sailing vessels. During his pilotage career, John has
served as CEO of the pilotage company and for many years was the
Federal Master of the Company of Master Mariners of Australia.
A public speaker of some repute with a dedication to the concept of
Sail Training, John remains an advocate of this concept of
life-experience for young people. John also brings to the group a
wicked sense of humor, a hearty laugh and an interesting tale for
all occasions.
John will use his professional expertise and life experiences to
interview other travelling sailors, local seafarers, commercial
fisherman and passenger ferry captains etc. to learn about their
experiences and challenges associated with the local ports, waters,
tides, currents, weather and commerce of their local region.
