MEET THE CREW

Richard Brown - General Manager and Underwater Cameraman

Richard was born in the UK and emigrated to Australia with his family in 2003 having worked in several countries around the world and has now decided to call Australia
his home.

His career has centered around senior management roles for the UK largest supermarket chain Tesco and most recently Coles in Australia. He has worked in the UK, France, Czech and Slovak Republics, Hungary, Poland, Turkey and Italy.

He joined Coles in 2003 as General Manager Supply Chain Development to help Coles establish a world class Supply Chain. He then ran Coles online and a couple of roles in merchandising, before deciding to take a break from corporate life in December 08.

His tenacity to get things done and his leadership style are his key strengths as well as logistical skills to ensure a smooth running of any business he has worked for.

He is a keen runner having completed 7 Marathons, 50+ half marathons and countless 10k races. He has been an approved motorcycle instructor, drummer and keen gardener.

Richards’s main hobby is scuba diving, achieving the level of Master Scuba Diver. During the past 10 years he has made several underwater video documentaries including all the research, filming, editing and narration. He is also passionate about the underwater environment. It was his work as an underwater cameraman that led him to be introduced to the Island Hoppers. His offer to do some underwater filming for the crew was eagerly accepted.

Since spending more time with the crew he saw an opportunity to help the guys create the Australian Series of Chasing the Horizons. As General Manager Richard runs the day to day business operations of the journey.

He also has the unenviable task of trying to keep the crew focused, on time and well prepared for the rigorous journey. Richard will accompany the crew for underwater filming and to keep the crew on track.

Richard will also have the task of keeping the crew fit (not much chance of that!).

His dream has always been to be involved in the creation of a TV series and now his dream is becoming a reality, but as a crew, we are not sure he knows what he has let himself into, as we can be a little difficult to control at times!!!!

Richard’s favourite quote:

“A bad day underwater is better than a good day in the office”.

John Carroll - Alan Morgan - Robert Caulfield - Dimitrios (Jim) Gindidis
